A year ago, Ana Alexandrescu stayed in this superb place, Dar Sebastian, to photograph it. The house belonged to George Sebastian, a Romanian aristocrat and aesthete, whose refined taste left a lasting imprint on Hammamet’s cultural and architectural landscape. Her friend, Lia Faur, who once taught Romanian in Tunisia, had discovered Sebastian and was researching his biography. She invited Ana to Hammamet, and for a week they both lived on this property so aptly named Dar Sebastian – the Sebastian House. It truly feels like a human presence materialized in walls, rooms, in black-and-white lines, in light, in objects, and in every plant and corner of the seaside garden. A man created this space to become immortal, to remain forever anchored in a place where he had been happy. On September 17, at 6:00 PM, at Cărturești Carusel, Ana Alexandrescu invites you to discover this fascinating character. The event features a photography exhibition and a conference held by Lia Faur. Special thanks to the Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes for their support.
