There is a quiet misconception that sadness is a place we are only passing through. But for some, it is a well-known landscape. A recurring shadow that feels less like an intruder and more like an old friend. Captured mostly on silver halide and draped in monochrome, this project explores the paradoxical comfort found in sadness. These images don't seek a cure for melancholy; instead, they pull up a chair and sit beside it. In the grain of the film and the depth of the blacks, we find a stillness that joy rarely grants us. It is the relief of finally stopping the search for the sun.
